You can’t beat May. For starters, it’s full of bank holidays and the countdown to summer is on. Plus, with the weather warming up, beer garden season is in full swing.
Families can start to plot getaways for the pending half term break – and this year, there’s an extra helping of street parties, BBQs and garden gatherings for the coronation.
From floral spring midis to wear-everywhere jumpsuits and the perfect shirt dress, here’s a quick run-through of what I’ll be wearing in May.
Dresses For Garden (And Street) Parties
I have a handful of dresses that I’ll be wearing for al fresco plans like garden parties and family BBQs this month. One is this beautiful tea dress with butterfly sleeves, which has a comfy elasticated waist and will see you right through the summer. Pair it with white heeled sandals and a matching bag to complete the look.
If you prefer a mini, this abstract floral mini dress is a great alternative. It’s super comfortable, the print is gorgeous, and those long sleeves are ideal for changing weather.
Outfits For Long Weekend Breaks
Whether you have a city break in the diary or you’re planning a relaxing weekend on the coast, having a few easy pieces to bung in your carry-on takes the stress out of packing.
I love this bright fuchsia pink cami midi dress – I’m imagining it paired with some strappy square-toe heels for a holiday dinner or beachside cocktails. You could easily dress it down with trainers for a stroll around the Old Town too.
For a day of sightseeing (or for the ultimate airport outfit) I’m choosing this everyday black jumpsuit with pocket detail. So comfy, easy to throw on in seconds, and a piece that you can easily wear from day plans out to dinner with a simple change of accessories.
Work To Weekend Dresses
With the longer evenings and warmer weather, after work drinks are starting to happen outside. If you need a dress to take you from your desk to an al fresco aperol, I’d recommend this beautiful long sleeve midi shirt dress in green. It had a lovely waist-cinching belted fit and is the perfect wear-me-anywhere piece.
Prefer cap sleeves? Try this patterned ruffle wrap maxi dress with a flattering wrap fit and high-low ruffle hem. It’s smart enough for work (pair it with a lightweight trench or cream blazer), but dressy enough for evening drinks.
Going Out-Out Pieces
Want to make an impact at a birthday party or evening event this month? Put the cobalt plisse midi dress on your list. Designed with a cowl neck, gold chain straps and a gathered midi length skirt, it’s guaranteed to make an impression. Try pairing with metallic or neutral heels to finish off the look.
