It’s a bit hot, isn’t it?
With temperatures soaring upward of 35°C, I’m finding it a little tricky to work out what to wear in the mornings. While nudity is currently a tempting option, I’m not sure how well that would go down at brunch.
My solution? Oversized tops.
Roomy shapes and relaxed fits make these everyday faves totally sweat-proof, especially those which come in cooling fabrics like linen or cotton. For an easy summer outfit, I’ll tuck a loose-fit blouse or tee into comfy denim shorts, completing the look with white trainers and a black mini bag.
I’ve picked out some of the tops I’ll be wearing daily this season, both at home and on holiday, from striped shirts to cotton tees and high-neck styles.
1. Summer pastels
Now is the perfect time to add some pastel shades into your wardrobe, and this baby blue striped shirt would be my top choice. While the subtly frilled hem makes it stand out from the crowd, this versatile option works with everything from shorts to cropped jeans or even smarter linen trousers. Pair with white denim and a beach bag on your next sunny holiday.
2. The ‘nice top’
The striking Michaela top comes in a lightweight silk-feel fabric that looks expensive, and it’s dressy enough for evening plans like wine nights or alfresco dinners. Loosely tuck into high-waisted dark trousers or matte leggings, and add metallic heels to complement the navy base. Too warm? Chuck on white shorts and trainers instead!
3. Classic cotton tee
All hail the simple white t-shirt! Perfect for layering in cooler seasons, this Monday-to-Sunday staple works wonders in summer too. This floaty option comes in a cool cotton fabric that’s lightweight and breathable, and it looks lovely thrown over blue denim shorts. I’ll be taking it on my holidays next month, wearing it over my bikini while I lounge by the pool.
4. Cool in khaki
Neutrals never fail to make me feel put-together, and popping on this khaki blouse is a fuss-free way to make an everyday outfit appear smarter or more expensive. Style with white linen trousers and nude or straw accessories for a look that’s relaxed with a touch of glam.
5. It’s all in the details
Your go-to white top, upgraded via lacy sleeves and a cute tie-neck detail. It’s long enough to wear on its own over your swimsuit while abroad, but you can also slip on some shorts or jeans at home. Add rattan wedges and an oversized hat, and make a beeline for that beachside bar.
