Here at SilkFred, we love dressing up for a night out with your besties. Whether you’re heading out for an evening of sushi and cocktails, busting your best moves on the dancefloor or singing your heart out at karaoke – whatever your night out entails, there’s one thing we know for sure: choosing the right footwear for a night out is essential.
There isn’t an instant mood killer quite like a pair of painful shoes. No one wants to be hobbling around on the dancefloor, begging strangers for plasters – or worse – having to go barefoot in an effort to save the night. But, for the shoe-obsessed (like us), we know how important it is to still look and feel good on a night out.
Blisters be gone! The expert team at SilkFred has put together our top tips on going out shoes. We’ve done the research, so you can do the walking. Step this way…
Spicy stilettos
Not for the faint-hearted, the stiletto is the most hardcore heel there is going. Guaranteed to make a statement, there’s no better time than a night out to crack out a pair of stunning stilettos. Of course, with this glam comes the risk of painful feet. Our best advice is to give your heels a test drive first, before committing to an all-night-long occasion. And don’t forget to pack blister plasters! If you’re heading to a wedding, you could always squeeze some flip-flops in your bag as a handy backup…
Top tip: When mastering the art of walking in high heels, particularly stilettos, it’s best to walk heel-to-toe. Essentially, when you take a step, place all the weight first on your heels and then on your toes. This may feel unnatural at first but it’s a sure-fire way to avoid numb toes and look good while you strut.
Handy heeled sandals
Looking for something a little more secure? Strapping into some heeled strappy sandals is just the ticket. Available in a multitude of colours, styles, and different types of heels – from thin to chunky blocks, low to high, there are so many heeled sandals to choose from. We love brightening up a monochrome fit with a pair of bright-coloured heeled sandals, like these lime green kicks.
P.S. These pair perfectly with a margarita in hand. Just saying…
Cute and comfy kitten heels
The noughties called. Kitten heels are back, baby. And good news for the girls looking for a compromise between style and comfort: the iconic low-rise kitten heel looks cute and isn’t a total pain to wear. Hurrah!
Classy nude heels
Got a formal event coming up? This calls for the ever-so classy and easy-to-style nude heel. Perfect for finishing off a light-coloured dress or pastel outfit, you can never go wrong with a pair of elegant nude heels. Better yet, they come in so many different heights and styles to choose from – opt for a low chunky heel or a high wedge, the sky is the limit.
Funky flats
More of a flats girl? You’re in luck. This year we’ve been treated to comfy soles with the rise in trendy ballet pumps, Mary Jane’s and preppy chunky brogues. All of which are perfect night-out companions. Choose from black, white, nude, red or even a funky print like these leopard print Mary Jane Pumps by Linzi. Style with an all-black outfit and a cute shoulder bag and you’ll be looking purrrfect.
Classic heeled boots
If you’re planning a night out in the autumn or winter time and temperatures are a little chillier, opting for a heeled boot is a great way to dress up any outfit, whilst still keeping your toes nice and toasty. We love a tan block-heeled boot, like these Kellan ankle boots, which look great with jeans, a midi skirt or a dress.
Top tip: Ditch the trainer socks if you’re wearing boots to avoid them slipping down all night. Instead, go for some longer ankle socks, or some thick tights for a cosy autumnal fit.
Killer knee-high & over-the-knee boots
It’s always fun to make a statement with your footwear on a night out. One simple (but effective) way to achieve this is by slipping into some killer knee-high or over-the-knee boots. Not only do they bring cold-weather glam to practically any outfit, but they keep your legs toasty and warm as temperatures drop in the chilly season. We love a pair of slinky over-the-knee black leather boots, like these Knee High Heeled Boots in Black.
To style, keep things simple with an all black fit, choosing from faux leather trousers or a black mini skirt and tights, and pair with a classy high-neck top. Finish your fit with a chic oversized blazer or biker jacket, and you’re ready to rock.
So, now you’ve sorted out your footwear game, it’s time to think about the rest of your fit. If you need an extra helping hand, why not check out our guide on wardrobe essentials for your next girls’ night out? Warning: may contain sequins.
