How are you celebrating the Platinum Jubilee?
Whether you’re planning to attend a street party, boozy BBQ or, if you’re feeling particularly patriotic, parade, you’ll need an outfit. You might even want something in blue, white or red, or perhaps a blend of all three.
I’ve pulled together six options that are both stylish and comfy and will work for whatever plans you have in the calendar. Think chic midis for fancier events and shirred dresses and cotton midis for garden parties and picnics.
Perfect For: A Great British BBQ
Dresses with shirring are my go-tos come summer, especially for events where I’ll be eating and drinking. This lovely floral number will keep you comfy and cool thanks to its elasticated waist and leg split, so it’s an excellent option for grill-side glam.
Perfect For: A Patriotic Picnic
The ideal accompaniment to your Victoria sponge, this denim maxi comes in a breezy cotton fabric and relaxed fit. The shirred waist and flowy skirt will hide all manner of food babies, and you can style it with anything from white trainers to heeled wedges.
Perfect For: Something Special
If you’ve managed to get your hands on tickets for a swanky event or party, you’ll want to check out the bestselling Bardot midi. This glam off-shoulder dress is available in lots of different colours, including royal blue and burgundy! Complete the look with heels and a fascinator.
Perfect For: A Street Party
Call up the neighbours, bag yourself some bunting and slip into this puff-sleeved midi with embroidered details. This light and airy dress is perfect for all sorts of summer plans, but it would work particularly well for a street party on the Jubilee. I’d pair it with strappy heels or comfy flats, finishing the outfit with a massive plate of cucumber sandwiches, of course.
Perfect For: Anything, Really
Perhaps, like me, your plans for the bank holiday weekend don’t go much further than ‘will get drunk with the girls’, and you’re not quite sure yet where you’ll end up. Luckily, this cute cherry cardigan is an easy way to subtly celebrate the Jubilee without much effort. I think I’ll chuck it on over jeans and a nice top (surprise, surprise) and wear it to a boozy brunch.
