Spring weather always leaves me confused. Some days, I can feel the sun on my face for the first time in months, and I start mentally planning outdoor drinks and trips to the beer garden. On others, dark clouds usher in days of pouring rain, and it starts to seem like summer is years away.
The worst part? It’s so tricky to work out what to wear, and putting together an outfit requires extra thought.
My advice: Layers are always your friend. Cardigans, blazers and lightweight jackets will be your style saviours this season, and I’ve compiled my top picks for your perusal. Just throw over your fave spring dresses, skirts, trousers – you get the idea!
Statement Blazers
I’m a big fan of blazers in spring. It’s so easy to layer them over jeans, tees or leggings, and they’re a great way to introduce some colour into your wardrobe.
This oversized style comes in a vibrant fuchsia pink, and it has two envelope pockets too – ideal for storing your phone. We’ve also got a version in blue with slightly different buttons, a great option for those who prefer slightly less daring colours.
If you want something smarter or more preppy, this checked layer is a fab alternative, and the colours work so well at this time of year. Throw over trousers and a blouse in the office, or pair it with shorts and a vest if you’re heading to brunch with the gals.
Throw-On Cardigans
To me, spring is cardigan season, and little makes me happier than being able to start wearing these versatile layers on the daily. Cute cropped pieces, longline fits, fluffy styles – I love them all! This chunky pink knit is a fun and easy way to add some colour to your everyday outfits, and it looks particularly good with light wash jeans.
The Isla oversized cardigan comes in a vibrant orange colour, and it’s also made from sustainable materials. Layer over your favourite neutrals (think black jeans and white tops), and wear her to the beer garden.
If, like me, you’re a fan of fluffy knits, then the Bambino cardigan will quickly become your ride-or-die spring layer. This knit comes in a super soft fabric, and it feels so snuggly on the skin. Ideal for weekend walks or sofa days.
Wear-Anywhere Shackets
Shackets combine the throw-on-ability of a shirt with the warmth of a jacket, so it’s perfect for awkward weather. Heading to the pub? Layer a shacket over jeans and you go-to ‘nice top’ or, if you wanna look more glam, opt for faux leather leggings instead.
This green checked option comes in a gorgeous fresh shade, but, if you prefer lighter colours, this lilac layer is lovely too!
Lightweight Jackets
When warm weather hits, I’m quick to ditch my winter coats and start wearing cropped jackets in lighter fabrics. Denim jackets are usually my top choice – they literally go with everything from dresses to skirts and, if you dare, jeans too. If I’m dabbling in double denim, I’ll usually go for contrasting shades, pairing black trousers with a blue jacket.
This checked jacket is super cute too, and I love that summery shade of blue.
If you’re a fan of biker jackets, this cropped style comes in a wearable suede fabric. I like to layer a biker over spring dresses, and then pop on some chunky boots for a cool, slightly edgier look.
