If you’ve tuned in recently, you may have read our post on styling tips for petite bodies – but what if you’re a longer limbed person? So often, if you’re a woman who falls into fashion’s ‘tall’ category, it’s a challenge to find items that flatter and fit comfortably, from trousers that barely graze the ankles to jumpsuits that don’t accommodate a longer torso (howdy, camel toe).
To help our taller SF customers find pieces that suit their bodies and style outfits for figure-flattering results, we’ve compiled 5 tips to make shopping that little bit easier. Modelled by SF team members Mollie and Megan – both 5’9 – these looks are low maintenance and adaptable, easily partnered with items already in your wardrobe.
Happily, most SF brands are taller frame friendly, with their mix of midi and maxi dresses, jumpsuits and longline coats, extensive jean styles and a variety of basics in all shapes and sizes.
The takeaway? Enjoy your height, size and individuality. After all, your body’s where you live – and great style starts with feeling good.
1. Team Dresses With Trainers
Disclaimer: there’s no reason not to wear heels (embrace your height!) but for total comfort and style, you can’t beat a light, live-in dress paired with fresh trainers. With its versatile button-through fit, the Dove shirt maxi suits all body types and comes in a rainbow of gorgeous prints. Button it up, show a little décolletage, or create a leg split – whatever takes your fancy.
2. Maxis Are A Must
It sounds obvious, but long bodies suit longline styles. Translation: maxis are your friend. For our taller customers, we prescribe the stunning 2-in-1 Farah maxi, combining a strappy cami with a bold rose print skirt. Giving maximum holiday vibes with minimal effort, it has a little leg split to show a flash of those long pins. Throw in a cute rattan bag plus ankle boots or sandals.
3. Choose Effortless Oversized Jumpers
Shoppers with petite bodies might be wary of swamping themselves with oversized styles – but taller types can really enjoy a wide variety of roomier fits. The snuggly Callie knit jumper looks gorgeous tucked into leather trousers, but you could just as easily go for a longline cardi in a statement print. Experiment with chunky knits, supersized fits and roll necks, all gorgeous on longer bodies.
4. High Waisted Is Your Hero
When you have long limbs and a long torso, high waisted jeans, culottes, leggings (you name it!) are always a win. They’ll accentuate your waist, elongate your already long legs, and save you from camel-toe. Try mixing a statement high waisted style like these leopard Bronx trousers with a simple white tee and trainers for weekend brunches and BBQs.
5. Tuck In Your Tops
Showcase your waistline and legs by tucking in your tops. If you don’t like a full tucked look, you can opt for a half tuck or ‘French tuck’ for a casual vibe. A comfy denim shirt tucked into a cute leather mini is great inspo for this type of look, really maximising on contrasting colours and textures.
